InZOI, an upcoming life simulation game developed by Krafton, has sparked a lot of discussion around its use of Denuvo. For those unaware, Denuvo is a controversial digital rights management (DRM) technology. It has long been criticized for its habit of impacting game performance and generally causing problems during gameplay. This led many players to wonder if InZOI would follow this trend and will Denuvo be a part of the game.
InZOI removes Denuvo following player feedback
Initially, a demo version of InZOI available on Steam included Denuvo protection, which raised concerns about possible performance issues when the game releases. However, the development team quickly responded to community feedback by announcing they would remove Denuvo from the Early Access build of the game.
Kjun, Producer and Director of inZOI, confirmed the decision, stating: “We have decided to remove Denuvo from the Early Access build of InZOI.” He further explained that while Denuvo was originally included to combat piracy, the team realized it might negatively affect the player experience more than anticipated. This decision has been welcomed by many in the gaming community who were worried about the impact of Denuvo on game performance.
Even though InZOI will not feature Denuvo DRM, the developers stated that they remain committed to protecting the game’s intellectual property. They plan to take legal action against piracy, even without the game shipping with Denuvo. Continuing from the statement, Kjun added: “We initially chose to implement Denuvo as a way to protect the game from illegal distribution. At the time, we believed this would help ensure fairness for players who had properly purchased the game. However, after taking a closer look at community feedback, we quickly realized that this approach did not align with what our players wanted.”
It remains to be seen how the game operates without Denuvo during its Early Access period compared to the closed Beta test. By all accounts, the removal of the controversial DRM will alleviate at least some of the community’s concerns.
